- Watch for notice and hearing instructions from the court. If written waivers are filed and the court does not require a hearing, the court may act without everyone appearing. Connecticut also has a streamline notice procedure under Probate Court Rules of Procedure, section 8.6.
- If a hearing, conference or deposition is scheduled, ask the clerk about remote participation before assuming you can appear by phone or video. Connecticut Probate Courts may allow participation by electronic means on request or on the court's own motion, but the court decides under Probate Court Rules of Procedure, section 66.1.
- After appointment, ask the clerk for certified copies of the certificate of appointment. Under C.G.S. section 45a-200, the certificate is sufficient evidence of the fiduciary's authority and identity for one year from the date issued.
- Administer and close the estate. The fiduciary files the inventory, including PC-2407 for a decedent's estate, within two months after qualification unless the court extends the time for cause under C.G.S. section 45a-341. The court places the newspaper notice to creditors within fourteen days after appointment under C.G.S. section 45a-354. Creditors have at least 150 days under C.G.S. section 45a-356, and the return of claims is handled under C.G.S. section 45a-361.
