- Take the oath and file any bond. The oath must be administered by a probate judge or clerk, not by a notary. Creditors who do not notify the personal representative within three months of the last publication lose equal participation under O.C.G.A. § 53-7-41.
- Inventory and account unless relieved. Unless the duty is waived or the court relieves the representative, file the inventory with the Troup County Probate Court and mail copies to heirs or beneficiaries within six months of qualification under O.C.G.A. § 53-7-30 and O.C.G.A. § 53-7-32. Troup County uses its own Estate Inventory form and mailing certificate.
- Pay claims, distribute and close. Keep account statements, receipts and proof of payments. Troup County's Annual and Final Return form asks for detailed account information and original bank statements for each account. When administration is complete, file the appropriate return if required and petition for discharge on GPCSF 33.
Executor duties
Troup County adds practical paperwork after appointment. Unless the court has relieved the personal representative of the duty, the inventory is filed with the Troup County Probate Court and mailed to the heirs or beneficiaries within six months of qualification under O.C.G.A. § 53-7-30, with waiver available under O.C.G.A. § 53-7-32. The court's Estate Inventory form is captioned for the Probate Court of Troup County and includes itemized real estate, bank accounts, securities, vehicles, personal property, bond information and a Certificate of Mailing of Inventory or Annual Return.

The Troup County Probate Court is a small counter in the county government center, not a separate estate-only office.
