- Address bond and authority. An administrator of an intestate estate must give bond unless all heirs consent to waive it (O.C.G.A. § 53-6-50). After qualification, the court issues letters testamentary or letters of administration.
- Publish the creditor notice. The personal representative must publish notice within 60 days after qualification, once a week for four weeks, in The Ocilla Star. Creditors who do not notify the personal representative within three months after the last publication lose equal participation as described in O.C.G.A. § 53-7-41.
- Administer the estate. Collect assets, pay valid claims, keep estate records, and file the inventory with the Irwin County Probate Court and mail copies to heirs or beneficiaries within six months after qualification unless the duty is waived (O.C.G.A. § 53-7-30, O.C.G.A. § 53-7-32).
- Close the estate. After claims are resolved and distributions are complete, file any required fiduciary compliance report and use GPCSF 33 to petition for discharge.
