The court, or the probate registrar in an informal administration, sets a creditor claim deadline by order at a date not less than three nor more than four months from the order date (Wis. Stat. § 859.01). Notice of that deadline is published, and agency notice may be required when the decedent or spouse received certain public benefits or owed certain public obligations (Wis. Stat. § 859.07).
- Attend any hearing that applies. Informal administration often proceeds administratively before the probate registrar. Formal administration and some summary procedures may require a hearing. - Receive authority to act. Once the personal representative is appointed and qualified, the authority document is Domiciliary Letters, form PR-1810, for both informal and formal administration.

- Close the estate. Informal administration may close by filing PR-1816, the personal representative's sworn statement to close, and the appointment terminates six months later if no proceeding is pending (Wis. Stat. § 865.16(2)). Formal administration closes through court orders, including final judgment and discharge forms.
