Statesville is the county seat, and the same clerk's office serves estates from Mooresville, Troutman, Harmony, Love Valley, Union Grove, Turnersburg, Mount Mourne, Barium Springs and the Lake Norman area within Iredell County.
Government Center South at 610 E. Center Ave. in Mooresville is a published Iredell court location, but the Judicial Branch states that there is not a Clerk of Court Office at that location and directs readers to the Iredell County Hall of Justice. Do not plan to open an estate at the Mooresville location.
Venue for a North Carolina estate is generally the county where the decedent was domiciled at death. If the decedent was not domiciled in North Carolina, venue may be a county where the decedent left property or into which estate property came (N.C. Gen. Stat. § 28A-3-1). Because the southern end of Iredell borders several counties around Lake Norman, confirm the decedent's county of domicile before filing.
The jurisdiction process
