Effective July 1, 2025, each additional service is $100.00 and each Secretary of State service is $50.00. The clerk treats this as a deposit, so additional costs may be billed later.
- Submit the original testament on paper if there is one. Louisiana allows an original testament to be filed in paper form even under the January 1, 2026 filing rule, and the clerk retains a probated or filed testament in perpetuity (La. C.C.P. arts. 253, 2911).
- After filing, Civil Processing scans the documents, assigns a suit number and randomly allots the matter to a division. The court's local rules require initial pleadings to be delivered to the clerk for filing and allotment before an order is presented to a judge, except for a pauper order route.
- In an uncontested succession, the clerk of court may probate an unopposed testament and confirm or appoint the succession representative, meaning an executor, administrator or other representative included in the Louisiana definition (La. - Administer the succession as needed. The succession representative gathers assets, prepares an inventory or detailed descriptive list where required, handles written creditor claims, and pays estate debts only with court authorization unless an exception applies (La. C.C.P. arts. 3191, 3241, 3301).
- Close with a judgment of possession. The court signs the judgment of possession. If Calcasieu Parish immovable property is involved, the judgment is recorded in the parish conveyance records, and the clerk's Civil Processing page identifies judgments of possession as recorded documents.
